It’s getting festive and chilly outside, perfect timing to get cozy inside and do some reorganization. Maybe with a little musical accompaniment?

WHAT’S NEW WITH US

TIDAL CREW

This month, we wanted to celebrate one of our awesome crew members, Ravi Gaddam, for passing the Microsoft AZ-400 exam: Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions. Congrats on a spectacular achievement which keeps us always moving forward!

TIDAL EVENTS

Our own Chief Value Officer Jason Hurlbut got to close the Aliter Technologies’ Cloudy Conference on October 27th with some thoughts on how to transition your support when evolving to a Hybrid cloud. If you’d like to sit in on the chat, feel free to register retroactively and catch up!

Coming up

It’s that time again, friends—AWS Re:Invent 2022 is kicking off in the fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, and we’ve got our tickets. If you’ve got yours too, shoot David Colebatch a message if you’re keen to connect!

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT

TIDAL TOOLS 2.0

If you haven’t checked in with Tidal Tools lately, you’re in for a treat.

Our CLI utility for migration discovery and analysis tasks has now been decked out with vSphere integration for server discovery, meaning this will collect the Hostname, FQDN, Operating System details, RAM and Storage data, CPU details, IP Addresses and more, all with one little command.

If you’re a fan of commands, you can now easily perform source code analysis on an internet air-gapped device and upload the results in a subsequent command. We also made several improvements and fixes to small issues in manipulating infrastructure datasets via the API using the sync and API request commands.

Get started by installing or updating to the latest version of Tidal Tools, and as always, let us know what you think!

CLOUD NEWS

  • Google is trying to solve the software supply chain security problem - At Google’s Cloud Next conference this month, they unveiled some tools to help software developers sleep a little easier. Software Delivery Shield, a fully managed software toolkit, and Cloud Workstations, which offers fully managed developer environments, are hoping to provide some reinforcements to keep that software supply chain solid.
  • Microsoft brings DALL-E 2 to the masses with Designer and Image Creator - It’s been a big month for tech updates—Microsoft’s Ignite conference also brought us the news that OpenAi’s (in)famous image-to-text generator DALL-E 2 is going to be coming to boardrooms and businesses in the form of Microsoft’s Designer platform. This leverages user-created content and DALL-E 2 to ideate designs for presentations, posters, and other content. We’ve come a long way since stock photos and WordArt!
  • Google Cloud announces Dual Run to ease mainframe migration to cloud - With the prevalence of the cloud, would it surprise you that a lot of major players are still earth-bound? Google Cloud aims to give them a boost. As the majority of banks are still running on mainframe computers, Dual Run allows enterprises to make a digital copy of their mainframe systems and run it simultaneously on the cloud while keeping the experience consistent.
  • Canonical releases Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu - More fun for programmers! If you’re in the IoT business and you’re looking for a place to play, you’ll find lots of improvements for embedded devices and remote development in Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu. What’s more, this latest Ubuntu distribution also supports the latest Ruby, Go, GCC, and Rust language versions.
  • Microsoft drops 6% after revealing weak guidance on its earnings call - Despite the scary title, Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud business segment generated $20.33 billion in quarterly revenue. That’s up 20% year-over-year. For the first time, revenue in the quarter exceeded 50% of overall company revenue from the Microsoft Cloud metric—encompassing Azure, commercial Office 365 subscriptions, commercial parts of LinkedIn and Dynamics 365. Azure revenue specifically, grew 35% in the quarter. The pivot to cloud is complete!
  • Amazon’s cloud business just recorded its weakest growth to date and missed analysts’ estimates - It seems no one is immune to these economic headwinds. While everyday folks are tightening their purse strings, AWS is still growing, but just not as fast as expected of their tech giant status.
