Ask David
“Hey David, can you share any best practices about the interview process?” - Mike from Ontario.
Hey Mike,
The interview is one of the best ways to gain insights into your application assessments. Here’s a few tips:
- Make sure that BOTH the technical AND the business owner are involved in the same interview.
- Pre-Brief your technical leads that the goal is to hear primarily from the business. In some organizations, this might feel uncomfortable (ie this is a technical migration!) but the process and the outcome are worth it.
- Keep it short, 15-20 minutes is sufficient
- Don’t ask too many questions, we like to keep it around 20
- Capture technical data like whether or not they own the source code
- Capture security & privacy information like if the app has PII
- Capture the value to the business unit, and
- Finally, record the entire process. We like to store the recording right on the application record in the Tidal platform.
I hope you found this useful! It’s a great way to build business stakeholder confidence in your migration - people and the change management fundamentals at play.
Keep the questions coming!
David
