TIDAL EVENTS

When we say Tidal is in the thick of a busy summer, allow us to illustrate (with a slight hint of travel-anxiety) with our schedule this past month:

Our CEO David Colebatch witnessed new heights of innovation at CANSEC, Canada’s Largest Global Defence & Security Trade Show in Ottawa.

The team was at the AWS Summit in Toronto where our CSO Krystle Khoo heard her favourite value prop. We’re pictured below, left to right—Chief Value Office Jason Hurlbut, Chief Executive Office David Colebatch, Chief Strategy Office Krystle Khoo, and Chief Technology Officer Phil Rees.

We were also at the AWS Summit in Atlanta last month, which was also a blast!

And coming up, we’ll be at the AWS Summit in New York on July 12th, and you may be able to chat with David and Jason at the Microsoft Toronto offices on the first day of Microsoft Inspire, running July 19-20th.

Reach out to David on Twitter if you’d like to meet us in New York: @dcolebatch

TIDAL SCHOOL

On top of our summer events, our team has been writing up a storm as well.

Hear from our awesome Chief Strategy Officer Krystle Khoo, as she takes us through her journey with Tidal (involving living/working on the road with an infant, during a pandemic no less!).

Our CEO David Colebatch wrote up a great article entitled Using Zero Trust Networking in Cloud Migrations to inform the planning of your transformative migration.

CLOUD NEWS

  • How do you process space data and imagery in low earth orbit? - There’s a Snowcone in space—and AWS partnered with Axiom Space to get it there. It seems when the International Space Station retires at the end of the decade, we’ll still be able to perform edge processing on space-based datasets using the edge computing and data transfer device, AWS Snowcone. This will help us continue to learn from research in low Earth orbit, and without latency and bandwidth limitations!
  • Microsoft retires Internet Explorer browser after 26 years - Remember Netscape? Microsoft’s browser Internet Explorer, a close sibling at the time, lasted longer, but was relegated to the browser graveyard in favour of Microsoft Edge this month, their most recent browser that boasts availability for Microsoft, Mac, and even Linux. End of an era.
  • Salesforce takes crypto plunge with new NFT cloud - Need a whole new reason to feel uncool? Salesforce just launched a no-code platform that makes it possible for customers to mint, manage, and sell NFTs, due to an uptick in consumer interest in and demand for these digital assets.
  • Papercup raises $20M for AI that automatically dubs videos - Because everyone should have “The Joy of Painting” in their lives, British startup Papercup’s notable projects include being used to translate 30 seasons of Bob Ross’ iconic show, and they’re not stopping there. They’re rising to meet a high demand for dubbed content all over the world. Seems real folks in the studio are expensive!
  • Microsoft and Meta join Google in using AI to help run their data centers - To address safety concerns as well as the high cost of outages, these giants are investigating more and more sophisticated ways to automate their data centres and make them smart enough to keep the universe running. Simple task, right?

That’s all for June, and if you’ve had a good time with us, let us know by sharing with the links below.

See you in July!
